Licorice is a member of the legume family, and Glycyrrhiza glabra is typically the variety referred to when discussing Licorice Root. This species is primarily native to Europe and Asia. Licorice is well used as a confectionery flavouring and is more popularly known as “sweet root”, but its value goes far beyond that, and the medicinal use of Licorice dates back several thousand years.

Licorice root has been used by traditional herbalists as a general supplement, for respiratory support, liver support and glandular system support. Licorice is included in most Asian herbal combinations to balance the other herbs and to promote vitality.
