Dr Peter J. D'adamo was getting frustrated. The renowned author of a series of very successful personalised nutrition books, including the New York Times bestseller Eat Right For Your Type, Dr. D'Adamo was beginning to see the limitations of the traditional static book format when it came to developing his brand of highly personalised diets. Books are OK when it comes to one-size-fits-all diets and even individualised diets based on single genes, like your blood type. You just turn to one of the four chapters that describes your particular blood type and away you go. But what happens when we try to incorporate 5, 15 or even 20 different genetic markers? How could biochemical individuality inherent in each of us be captured with such an inflexible format as a book?
Dr. D'Adamo has had a life-long interest in computer programming and it soon became apparent to him that his hobby could provide the answer: Why not write a computer program that allowed each individual to generate their own one-of-a-kind diet? So a few years ago, Dr. D'Adamo began to write computer code. Lots of it. What resulted is undoubtedly the most sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, dietary software available. At first it was only available to doctors in the USA, who've used it on thousands of their patients. Now it is available directly to health-conscious consumers here in the UK. A series of electronically generated diet and recipe books that magically write themselves. He called it SWAMI.
The word SWAMI stands for 'Serotyping With Advanced Modifying Inventories.' Serotyping is the process of using blood groups to generate dietary recommendations. 'Advanced Modifying Inventories' are all the extra things like fingerprint analysis, jaw angle and body measurements, etc. that are used to refine the blood type data into the individual GenoType Diet®. There is nothing particularly mystical in the program's name, neither is there a little wizard inside your computer figuring out your specific diet... or is there?
