OPUS23™ - The Next Generation in Genomic Bioinformatics
Welcome to OPUS23™, where your genomic information comes to life. Below you will find information about OPUS23™ how it works, and how it may be able to assist your health both now and in the future. Your OPUS23™ Certified Consultant at Body and Mind Studio® is Paul Hopfensperger MIfHI MCMA who has been trained by Dr Peter D'Adamo on OPUS23™ at the Center of Excellence in Generative Medicine, University of Bridgeport, USA, and will be happy to assist you with any questions that you may have. Paul works with Naturopathic Physicians in the USA and Canada to analyse your data, and together we can truly personalise your wellness programme.
What is OPUS23™?
OPUS23™ is a software program developed by Dr Peter D'Adamo that interprets raw genomic data from 23andMe. 23andMe is a service company that performs genomic analysis and reports their findings back to you. At Body and Mind Studio® we then take the raw data from 23andMe and run it through OPUS23™. OPUS23™ then 'translates' the raw genetic data into clinically relevant and important information that we can then use to institute your unique personal wellness programme.
OPUS23™ takes raw genomic data (on the left) and using an incredible array of software tools, converts it into medically relevant information (on the right).
What's the process?
You may decide on your own that an OPUS23™ nutrigenomic consultation is what you require, or we may decide to recommend doing one based on information you have given us. Either way you will require a 23andMe testing kit before proceeding with Paul at Body and Mind Studio®. We can either perform the entire process for you (STEP 1 above), or you can purchase your own 23andMe kit, or you may already have completed this part of the process. You will need to collect a saliva sample as part of the process, this will then need to be shipped back to 23andMe, and once your results are received back from them (from our experience, this can take anywhere between 3 weeks to 2+ months) this is where the OPUS23™ nutrigenomic consultation takes over.
Once your results are ready from 23andMe are received back, they are contained in a raw data 'ZIP' file. Once we are in possession of the raw data, we can load it into OPUS23™ and begin our analysis (STEP 2 above).
How does it work?
23andMe reports over 700,000 individual genetic markers called SNPs (pronounced 'snips'). SNP stands for 'single nucleotide polymorphism' which simply indicates that at some point in the genome there was a variation in one of the letters of DNA (A, T, C, G) from what was normally to be expected. For example a person might have an SNP with a 'C' at that location, whereas a 'T' would be what would normally be expected. SNPs are very common, as each of us are uniquely different genetically from each other. Many SNPs have been associated with certain health risks.
OPUS23™ combs through the results and looks for these special SNPs. It then activates its own analytic machinery and reports back to the consultants any areas of special interest. This type of testing would have cost many tens of thousands of pounds as little as a few years ago; the fact that it is available at such a reasonable cost is testimony to the amazing developments in modern technology.
What is a nutrigenomic consult?
When your request or a clinician suggests running OPUS23™ you will be asked to schedule a nutrigenomic connsult. The consultants will analyse the OPUS23™ report data and relay its results back to you. Any specific recommendations regarding lifestyle changes, nutritional therapies, supplements or other naturopathic therapies will be discussed at that time. You will receive a fully-curated report detailing the findings.
Your investment in OPUS23™ will continue to grow with time. New functions are constantly being added to OPUS23™. With each new release of OPUS23™ your clinicians will continue to run your data through as and when you instruct them to.
