Blood Type A - (Agrarian) – Grazing Community – This blood group more recently evolved from the dawn of agriculture and prefer a vegetarian diet free of red meat. Approximately 42% of the UK population are Blood Type A.
The Type A blood group originated when humans moved away from hunting and gathering to building and farming. The cultivation of grains and livestock changed eveything - for the first time in history people were able to establish stable communities.
This is reflected in the A blood type's diet and personality. Type A's flourish on a vegtarian diet - if you are accustomed to eating meat, once you begin eating right for your blood type, you will lose weight and have more energy. Many people find it difficult to move away from eating the typical meat and potato fare to soy proteins, grains and vegetables. But it is particularly important for Type A's sensitive immune system to make these changes. Dr. D'Adamo says "With this diet, you can supercharge your immune system and potentially short circuit the development of life-threatening diseases." He recommends that Type A's favour a vegetarian diet featuring abundant fresh vegetables, tofu, seafood, grains, legumes and fruit and avoid red meat and dairy.
Type A's have naturally high levels of the stress hormone cortisol and produce more in response to stressful situations. The overabundance of this hormone can manifest in several ways, causing obsessive-compulsive disorder, insulin resistance and hypothyroidism. To help balance cortisol levels, Dr. D'Adamo recommends limiting sugar, caffeine and alcohol, and eating smaller, more frequent meals to help balance blood sugar levels.
Since Type A's already have high cortisol levels, he recommends they choose calming exercises such as Yoga and Thai Chi to help A's remain balanced and calm.
